Wike targets December handover for two FCT road projects

Two major road projects in the Federal Capital Territory are expected to be completed and handed over to residents by the end of December, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has said.
Wike gave the assurance on Tuesday after inspecting some ongoing projects, including the first phase of the ISEX road project, which covers about 5.4 kilometres and two interchanges.
He said the contractors had continued work despite limited mobilisation, with the company working day and night to meet the completion target ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“You remember when we flagged off this particular road, we did mention that, uh, we’ll like to hand it over to the residents of the FCT before the general election.”
Wike commended CGC for its commitment, noting that the company was also handling the first phase of the ISEX project, which was awarded in 2014.
He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had approved the complete release of funds for the first phase of the project, which includes two interchanges and about 5.4 kilometres of road.
“I really would want to thank Mr. President for approving the complete release of the funds for the ISEX, of the first phase, which includes two interchanges and I think about 5.4 kilometers of road.”
The minister urged other contractors handling FCT projects to emulate CGC by continuing work despite delays in mobilisation, describing such commitment as a contribution to the development of the territory.
“Everything is not about profit. Sometimes, for the development, they call it their own contribution for the development of the area. Money will come at the end of the day.”
He assured contractors that government would pay for work completed, even when funds did not arrive at the time initially expected.
“There’s no, uh, government that will give out jobs and will not want to pay. Probably, the money may not have come at that time you expected, but at the end of the day, we believe that you have moved work, you deserve your payment.”
Wike said he remained confident that the two projects would be ready for handover before the end of the year.
“So, I’m quite confident by December ending, God willing, these two projects would have been handed over to us. And we can imagine what the landscape would be.”
He also thanked President Tinubu and FCT residents for their support for the administration, saying the ongoing projects reflected the administration’s investment in the development of the capital.
