Reps to probe NAF crash, audit aircraft fleet

The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the October 5 crash of a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft in Ondo State, which reportedly killed 25 people, and conduct a comprehensive audit of aircraft in the service’s fleet.

The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by the Chairman of the House Committee on Air Force, Alhassan Rurum, alongside Donald Ojogo, who represents the affected constituency.

The lawmakers expressed concern over inadequate funding, delayed budgetary releases, shortages of spare parts and logistical challenges affecting aircraft serviceability and aviation safety.

They urged the Nigerian Air Force to strengthen its aircraft maintenance and airworthiness management systems to improve operational efficiency and prevent future accidents.

The House also called for the payment of appropriate benefits and compensation to the families of the deceased in line with applicable laws.

The lawmakers observed a minute of silence in honour of the victims and stressed the need for accountability and improved safety standards across the Air Force fleet.
