Nathaniel Bassey’s YouTube channel surpasses one billion views

Nigerian gospel musician and pastor, Nathaniel Bassey, has recorded a major digital milestone, with his official YouTube channel exceeding one billion views, making him the first gospel artiste to attain the feat, according to available channel statistics.

The channel, Nathaniel Bassey Main, has accumulated more than 1.014 billion views and attracted approximately 5.24 million subscribers since it was established in 2011.

The achievement comes amid the October 2026 edition of the Hallelujah Challenge, an online prayer and worship programme initiated by Bassey in 2017, which has continued to attract participants from across the world.

The initiative, characterised by midnight sessions of worship, praise and prayers, has evolved from a digital religious gathering into an international platform, drawing thousands of people to its live broadcasts, while its recorded sessions reach an even wider audience.

Bassey has built a strong following within the Nigerian and international gospel music communities through songs such as Imela, Onise Iyanu, Olowogbogboro and You Are God.

His growing online presence has also been reinforced by the popularity of the Hallelujah Challenge, which has provided a platform for worshippers across geographical boundaries to participate in collective prayer and praise.

The latest milestone has generated excitement among his followers, with discussions emerging about the commercial opportunities that could accompany the channel’s expanding audience.

However, Bassey has consistently presented the Hallelujah Challenge as a spiritual undertaking, emphasising worship, prayer and devotion rather than financial returns.
