The member representing Ovia Federal Constituency and aspirant for Edo State Governorship election under the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dennis Idahosa has formally submitted his nomination form, pledging a determined effort to reclaim mandate lost to the People Democratic Party, PDP, in September 2020.
The two-time House of Representatives Member who disclosed this after returning his expression of interest and nomination form to the APC national headquarters in Abuja said, ” have facilitated not less than 124 projects within the space of four years as a legislator, representing the good people of Ovia Federal Constituency.”
Idahosa, expressing gratitude for the support of the people and divine guidance, underscored the urgency to address prevailing issues in Edo, particularly the pressing matter of insecurity.
He assured the public of collaborative efforts with security agencies to tackle the farmers and herders crises, emphasizing the need for a secure environment to facilitate the return of parents to farming.
He said,”It is about the insecurity that we face in our state, Edo. I made it clear to my Edo people during the course of consultations that I will take care of the issue of insecurity in my state by collaborating with all the security agencies across the state and majority of our state people are farmers as we speak”
“We can no longer go to farm as a result of farmers and herders crises as a governor of Edo state by the grace of God. I will collaborate with all the security agencies to ensure that the land is safe and secure for parents to go back to farm.
Announcing his gubernatorial bid, Idahosa confidently declared the party’s readiness to reclaim the mandate, stating that the party is healthy, safe, and poised for success with the backing of the people and key stakeholders.
“I will be contesting for the office of governorship in Edo state to reclaim the mandate that we lost to PDP back to our great state. Our party is very healthy, very safe and ready to reclaim this mandate. With the support of Edo people and all the critical stakeholders. I’m very certain that we will reclaim a new state back to our great party.”
The nominee outlined key promises for his potential governance, emphasizing local government autonomy to ensure effective fund utilization. Idahosa also vowed to protect and respect traditional institutions, addressing concerns over state government interference.
In response to questions regarding his legislative track record, Idahosa detailed his substantial contributions, including motions and bills that led to significant improvements such as the prompt fixing of the Ovia river bridge. He clarified the delay in rice palliative distribution, attributing it to bureaucratic processes within the Ministry of Agriculture.
Addressing queries about being anointed and his relationship with Adams Aliyu Oshiomole, Idahosa humbly denied being anointed by anyone other than God. Acknowledging Oshiomole as the party leader, he expressed profound respect for the former governor and affirmed his commitment to serving the people of Edo State.
He stated “First my name Right honorable Denis Idahosa If you say I’m anointed, maybe anointed by God, nobody has told me. Adams Aliyu Oshimole is the leader of our party. And He’s highly respected in our state because of all he has done as a governor. And so He’s our leader, and he has not told me that I’m anointed except the fact that God has anointed me to govern the good people of Edo State”
“Let me tell you a synopsis about myself and my House of Representative member. I’m currently the chairman of healthcare services in House of Representative and this is my second time and also with the support of God and the people of Edo,
“So on that note. Also I also promised the Edo people that i will ensure that is local government autonomy to ensure that most of the money appropriated for local government actually used in the various local government to stand in the Edo right now the state governments the current state governments, led by PDP government, they give stipends to local government chairman to do minor things and at the end of the day, nothing has been done.
“Under my watch as a governor, I will ensure that money appropriated to local governments actually get to them. Also, we are currently having some issues with the state government trying to interfere with issues of traditional institutions under my watch as a governor of Edo by the grace of God will ensure that our protect and respects our traditional institution,”he said.
