NSUK reverses dismissal of 8 students after governor’s intervention

The Senate of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, NSUK, has reversed the rustication of eight students earlier dismissed for one academic session over their involvement in the recent Students’ Union Government, SUG, election crisis.

Registrar of the university and Secretary to Senate, Dr. Bala Ahmed, who disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, said the decision was reached at the 128th Regular Meeting of the Senate held on Thursday.

Ahmed said the reversal followed an appeal by the Governor of Nasarawa State and Visitor to the University, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, who has urged the Senate to temper justice with mercy.

According to him, the Governor reiterated this appeal during his address at the 4th Stakeholders’ Meeting held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

The affected students are: Yunusa Baduku, Faith Gimba, Sani Sunday Ason, David Bartholomew, Yohanna Abeson Joshua, Isaac Ewa Musa, Abdulrahman Anas, and Yakubu Precious.

He said in view of the Governor’s intervention, the Senate agreed to waive the one academic session rustication penalty, specifically for the Second Semester of the 2024/2025 session, acknowledging that the students had already missed the First Semester.

However, the Senate emphasized that the conditions earlier set for the students’ return remain in effect.

The conditions are that the students must resume in the company of their parents or guardians, and submit a letter of undertaking addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, pledging to maintain good conduct for the remainder of their academic programme.

Upon resumption, the students are to report to the University’s Directorate of Guidance and Counselling for character reformation counselling.

The Senate reaffirmed its commitment to discipline while also upholding the values of forgiveness and academic rehabilitation.
