Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that his administration is fixated solely on road construction, insisting that education, health, and other key sectors are receiving equal attention under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Wike, who spoke during a project inspection tour of road infrastructure in Gwagwalada and Kwali Area Councils on Friday, disclosed that over 60 public schools across the territory have already been renovated as part of efforts to ensure equitable development across sectors.
While pointing that road infrastructure remains critical to urban development, the minister assured that no sector would be left behind in the ongoing transformation of the capital city and its satellite towns.
“Just because we’ve not taken you to the schools doesn’t mean work is not being done. We have renovated more than 60 schools and they are truly innovative and polished. Once we are done with commissioning road infrastructure, we’ll take you round to see the schools as well,” the Minister said.
“No sector will be abandoned. Every sector is being touched. We’ve renovated over 60 schools across the FCT, and they are truly polished and innovative,” Wike said. “Once we complete the current round of road commissioning, we’ll take you round the schools for a proper assessment.”
According to the Minister, the road projects currently underway — including the Gwagwalada Market-Aguma Road and the A2 to Pai Road in Kwali — are critical enablers of access to schools, hospitals, markets, and security outposts.
“Development anywhere in the world begins with roads. Without them, which school can you attend? Which hospital can you reach? How do you move farm produce to the market? Even criminals are discouraged when roads are accessible and well-lit,” he said.
He stressed that the massive investments in infrastructure, including education, are tied to the quality of leadership being provided by President Tinubu, stating that the Administration’s 2025 budget allocates over N100 billion to education, indicating the government’s commitment to inclusive development.
