NCCE deploys tech tools, begins curriculum overhaul in CoEs

The National Commission for Colleges of Education, NCCE, has begun deploying upgraded technology solutions across colleges of education nationwide as part of efforts to strengthen teaching and learning in the country.

Executive Secretary of NCCE, Prof. Paulinus Okwelle, disclosed this in Abuja during an interaction with journalists.

Okwelle noting that the Commission is also undertaking a comprehensive curriculum review to ensure alignment with current realities and global educational standards.

“We have entered into partnerships with several development partners where we have upgraded technology as a means of delivery.

“Companies like Huawei now run academies where our students and lecturers are benefiting. In collaboration with UNESCO, we have also been upskilling our lecturers on the use of technology in lesson delivery. In many of our beneficiary colleges, we are deploying new technologies to enhance teaching and learning,” he said.

The professor of Industrial Technology Education, commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, for providing critical financial support for the rollout of these innovations.

Speaking on the curriculum review, he explained that the exercise, conducted every five years, is currently underway.

According to him, the last review of the curriculum was in 2020, and the new cycle will integrate recent advancements, emerging trends, and evolving workforce needs.

The NCCE boss also revealed that the Commission is equipping lecturers with entrepreneurial skills to help embed innovation and self-reliance into teaching across all subject areas.

“We believe that for every course, you can become an entrepreneur, even as an English teacher. We are building our lecturers with entrepreneurial skills so they can imbibe entrepreneurship in their teaching.

“The goal is to prepare students to understand that whether they graduate as physics, agriculture, or vocational teachers, they can make a living from their expertise beyond seeking government jobs,” he said.

He added that the training is expected to translate into practical application in classrooms across colleges of education nationwide.
