Plateau orders immediate closure of schools amid terror threats

The Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board, PSUBEB, has ordered the immediate closure of schools across the state in response to rising security concerns.

According to the Board, Government Junior Model Secondary Schools, GJMSSs, will close starting Saturday, 22 November 2025, while primary and day schools will shut from Monday, 24 November 2025.

PSUBEB, in a a statement on Friday, said the closure is a preventive measure aimed at protecting students and staff from potential terrorist threats.

The shutdown comes on the heels of a midnight attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, GGCSS, Maga in Kebbi State, in which unidentified number of girls was reportedly abducted, leading to the shutdown of schools in 9 local government areas of the state.

Recall that Bandits also attacked the St. Mary’s Catholic Secondary School in Papiri area of Agwara Local Government Area in Niger State, in the early hours of Friday, abducting dozens of students, and spreading panic.

The Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board emphasized that the action is temporary but necessary to safeguard learners and reassure communities that the government prioritizes their wellbeing.

PSUBEB urged Local Government Education Authorities, school administrators, and community leaders to cooperate fully with the directive and maintain heightened vigilance during this period.
