The Federal Capital Territory Police Command said it has intensified its enforcement on the ban on commercial motorcycles, impounding over 21 okadas and arresting their riders during a citywide enforcement operation.
Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, said the operation was carried out on Thursday by a combined team of operatives working with sister security agencies and Vehicle Inspection Officers.
Adeh, in a statement, explained that the offenders were “found violating the existing restriction on motorcycle operations along major roads and highways,” adding that the riders were arrested in line with extant laws governing the FCT.
Part of the statement reads, “This enforcement exercise forms part of a sustained inter-agency strategy aimed at reducing traffic-related crimes, curbing the use of commercial motorcycles for criminal activities, and enhancing public safety across the FCT.”
The statement further reaffirmed the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye’s commitment to enforcing all security and traffic regulations designed to protect lives and property. “Continued defiance of the ban on commercial motorcycles along major routes will attract firm enforcement actions,” he said.
The statement further quoted the Police Command as assuring residents that proactive operations would continue across all six Area Councils. “Such proactive operations will be intensified across the six Area Councils,” it noted.
