Plateau to unlock 98,000 hectares for defence farms in Wase

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has assured Defence Holdings Company Limited (DHCL) of his administration’s readiness to partner on the establishment of Defence Farms and Agro-Allied Products in Wase Local Government Area, with about 98,000 hectares of land identified for the project.

The assurance was given on Tuesday in Jos during a visit by the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DHCL, Air Vice Marshal Anthony Victor Ndace, who led a delegation to the Government House.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Samuel Jatau, the governor said 30,000 hectares out of the 98,000 hectares would be used for the initial phase of the defence farms project, noting that the initiative would boost food production and enhance security in Wase and surrounding communities.

He praised the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, for his efforts in promoting peace and national stability, and pledged the state government’s full cooperation with the Defence Headquarters to ensure smooth implementation.

Ndace said he was in Plateau on behalf of the CDS to appreciate the state government for the land allocation, adding that the project aligns with the Federal Government’s food security agenda.

He said a technical team was on ground to assess the land and explore areas of collaboration with the state government ahead of the project’s take-off.

The visit also featured a presentation on the agricultural potential of the 98,000 hectares of land in Wase, exchange of souvenirs and a group photograph.
