The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says accreditation and voting commenced at exactly 8:30 in most of the polling Units as scheduled.
The Deputy director Voter Education FCT INEC, Mr Samuel Bassey, who stated this while updating journalists, said election materials and INEC officials arrived early at polling Units in areas like Garki, Wuse and other places visited.
Meanwhile, heavily security personnel were stationed at the FCT INEC headquarters and only people duely accredited were allowed to enter the premises.
Accredited journalists are waiting anxiously to get latest information.
Both domestic and foreign accredited observers are also on ground while some are on the field to monitor the situation.
Though no activity is going on at the office, the National Commissioner in charge of FCT, Mallam Kudu Haruna, FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Aminu Idris, and other senior officials are on ground to monitor the developments at the Election Monitoring Center established at the FCT INEC office.
The Election Monitoring Center is to receive reports and attend to emergencies .
1, 680,325 registered voters are expected to participate in today’s exercise.
Seventeen political parties are presenting candidates for 62 councillorship positions and 6 chairmanship positions.
The voting which started at 8:30am is expected to end by 2:30pm.
