Political stakeholders in Warri Federal Constituency have urged the Chief Executive Officer of Bon Hotel De Tranquil, High Chief Promise Lawuru, to contest the House of Representatives seat in the 2027 general elections.
The call was made by a political pressure group, the Warri Federal Constituency Progressive Forum, during a gathering of political leaders, traditional chiefs, women, youths and religious leaders from Warri South, Warri South-West and Warri North Local Government Areas.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the forum, Chief Markson Aghokigho Igiegie, the group said the constituency requires vibrant and accessible leadership capable of promoting development and empowerment opportunities across the three local government areas.
According to the forum, the constituency faces increasing socio-economic challenges and needs a representative who can champion job creation, economic empowerment and legislative actions that address hunger and poverty.
Key figures at the meeting included Chief Madam Onome Okumagba, Panama Gabriel Panama, Barr. Bawl Wesley Edema and DCN. Godpower Benakiegha, among other stakeholders.
The forum also expressed support for Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, commending his administration for what it described as pragmatic leadership.
Responding to the appeal, Lawuru thanked members of the forum and stakeholders in the constituency for the confidence reposed in him.
He, however, said he would consult with political leaders, friends and members of his family before making a decision on whether to contest the seat.
Lawuru said, “You informed me there was an urgent meeting and requested my presence. Having listened to your appeal, I will ask that you give me time to consult my friends, political leaders and my family before I respond formally.”
The development is expected to stir political discussions within the Warri Federal Constituency as political activities gradually build up ahead of the 2027 general elections.
