Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has described the All Progressives Congress screening exercise as successful and in line with the party’s internal procedures.
Uzodimma spoke after appearing before the APC screening panel ahead of the party’s senatorial primary election.
“It was a very good exercise. APC is one family and we know ourselves. Following the party’s requirements, I submitted myself for screening and I believe they are satisfied,” he said.
The governor also dismissed concerns over opposition realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that President Bola Tinubu and the APC remained firmly in control politically.
Reacting to reports that an opposition party had zoned its presidential ticket to the South, Uzodimma said the APC was not threatened by the development.
According to him, the ruling party currently controls the majority of states across the federation, reflecting growing national support for President Tinubu.
“In a country of 36 states, about 31 are transparently APC states. Nigeria has already spoken and we are not threatened,” he stated.
Speaking on his ambition to move to the Senate after completing his tenure as governor, Uzodimma said his focus remained on representing his constituents effectively rather than seeking leadership positions in the National Assembly.
“My ambition is to go to the Senate to represent my people. Whatever rules we meet there, we will follow them,” he added.
