A total of 117 pioneer graduates of Confluence University of Science and Technology, CUSTECH, Osara have been deployed for the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, across Nigeria.
The move comes exactly four years after its establishment by the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello’s administration.
Vice-Chancellor of CUSTECH, Prof. Abdulrahman Salawu, announced this in a statement on Saturday, describing it as historic milestone achieved by the institution.
According to Salawu, the deployment is a testament to the university’s commitment to producing competent graduates equipped to contribute meaningfully to national development.
“This historic moment reflects the university’s dedication to academic excellence and its mission to nurture globally competitive leaders,” he said.
The VC expressed CUSTECH community, Governing Council, Management, Staff, and Students’ profound gratitude to the institution’s founder whose vision and commitment to education laid the foundation for the university’s rapid growth.
The university also commended the current Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his unwavering support, which has sustained the institution’s progress.
Salawu noted the university’s remarkable expansion over four years, growing from 11 academic programmes to 56, including cutting-edge fields like Medicine, Nursing, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Computing, and Law.
“This growth underscores the solid foundation laid by Alhaji Yahaya Bello and the continuous support from Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, who have prioritized education as a key driver of development,” he said.
He further emphasized the institution’s readiness to address Nigeria’s economic needs, noting that 14 graduates from the pioneer class earned First Class degrees, a feat attributed to the availability of world-class facilities and a conducive learning environment.
He urged the graduates to serve as exemplary ambassadors during their NYSC year, expressing confidence in their ability to uphold the university’s values and demonstrate the quality of education they received.
“As this pioneering class embarks on this transformative journey, CUSTECH remains steadfast in its commitment to excellence, innovation, and contributing to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth,” he said.
