The South South leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has applauded the University of Port Harcourt for conferring an honorary Doctor of Science degree on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The party described the recognition as a fitting tribute to Wike’s legacy of infrastructural development and purposeful governance, both as former Governor of Rivers State and now as FCT Minister.

In a statement on Saturday, PDP National Vice Chairman (South South), Chief Dan Osi Orbih, said the award was well-deserved and symbolic of Wike’s enduring contributions to public service.

“This distinguished honour is well-earned. It is a recognition of Barrister Nyesom Wike’s sterling contributions to the advancement of governance, infrastructural development, and public service in Nigeria,” Orbih said.

“From his trailblazing tenure as Governor of Rivers State to his current national assignment in the FCT, his commitment to excellence has remained unwavering.

“We in the PDP in the South South are proud of the FCT Minister and his achievements, relentless pursuit of progress, and uncompromising loyalty to the ideals of good governance as well as democratic leadership.

“He is a tower of hope and a shining example of what purposeful leadership can achieve.”

The party also thanked the Governing Council and Management of UNIPORT for honouring Wike, describing him as a leader whose impact cuts across regional lines.

“He will continue to be celebrated, not only as a leader from the South South, but as a true statesman whose influence transcends regional boundaries,” the statement added.
