FCT-IRS extends 2026 individual tax deadline by 30 days

The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service, FCT-IRS, has given individual taxpayers an additional month to submit their annual income tax returns, extending the deadline from March 31 to April 30, 2026.
The Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT-IRS, Mr. Michael Ango, said the extension is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the territory’s digital tax administration and make filing simpler and more secure for residents.
Ango, in a statement signed by the Head, Corporate Communications of the FCT-IRS, Mustapha Samaila, explained that the move comes as the Service seeks to improve compliance and ensure that all taxpayers can submit accurate returns amid Abuja’s growing population and expanding workforce.
He therefore urged taxpayers to embrace voluntary compliance as a civic duty that contributes to national development.
“Individuals should prioritise the timely filing of their annual income tax returns. Voluntary compliance should be embraced as a routine civic responsibility and a vital contribution to national development.”
Ango reiterated that electronic filing through the FCT-IRS Tax portal is the approved method for submitting returns, describing the platform as secure, efficient, and accessible.
