Tinubu condemns Plateau, Kaduna killings, orders crackdown on perpetrators

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the recent killings in Plateau and Kaduna states, describing the attacks as “barbaric,” with a vow to bring those responsible to justice.
The President, in a statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesperson,  Bayo Onanuga, decried the assault by gunmen in Angwan Rukuba district of Jos, Plateau State, as well as the attack on wedding guests in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Tinubu said the incidents, which involved killings and abductions, were a direct affront to the nation’s values, warning that such acts would not go unpunished.
“Anyone who sneaks under the cover of the night to kill defenceless citizens is a heartless coward. By attacking soft targets, their aim is not only to cause harm but also to trigger reprisals and further bloodshed,” the President said.
He directed security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators, as well as clamp down on the spread of misinformation capable of inflaming tensions.
The President also cautioned sections of the media against prematurely framing the attacks as religiously motivated.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to restoring peace, Tinubu said security agencies were actively responding to the situation, stressing that cooperation from the public remained critical to safeguarding lives and property.
He urged affected communities to adhere to evacuation and relocation directives where necessary.
The President welcomed the safe return of two abducted victims in Kaduna and called for the immediate rescue of those still in captivity.
“I urge our security agencies to be more proactive by acting on early warning intelligence. All remaining abductees from Kahir village must be rescued immediately,” he added.
Tinubu also commended Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and his Kaduna counterpart, Uba Sani, for their efforts in managing the crises and supporting rescue operations.
He extended condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery, assuring Nigerians that the Federal Government was procuring advanced equipment to enhance the capacity of security agencies to track and neutralise criminal elements in real time.
