The University of Abuja has added 258 newly licensed teachers to Nigeria’s education workforce following the induction of its Bachelor of Education graduates into the teaching profession by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN.
The ceremony marked the 10th induction for graduates of the university’s Bachelor of Education programmes and brought together university officials, education stakeholders, lecturers, graduates and their families to celebrate the milestone.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, commended the TRCN for its steadfast commitment to strengthening the teaching profession through effective regulation, professional standards and quality assurance.
He urged the new teachers to discharge their responsibilities with humility and integrity, reminding them that educators wield enormous influence over the lives of their students and society at large.
The Registrar of TRCN, Dr Ronke Soyombo, who was represented by Dr Bimbo Okunola, administered the teachers’ oath and charged the inductees to embrace lifelong learning while upholding the ethics and values of the profession.
Delivering the induction lecture, Professor Jonathan Ikerionwu emphasised the importance of purposeful teaching, professionalism, ethical conduct and the pursuit of excellence in the 21st-century classroom.
He encouraged the newly inducted teachers to remain committed to continuous self-improvement and to equip learners with the knowledge, skills and values needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
The event concluded with the formal induction of the graduates, who pledged to uphold the ideals of the teaching profession and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of education in Nigeria.
