Benue commits to annual civil servants’ capacity building

iThe Benue state government has said it will carry out yearly training of civil servants to build their capacity, enhance their performance for quality service delivery. Governor Samuel Ortom announced this when he received representatives of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, ASCON, in Government House, Makurdi.The governor while appreciating ASCON for relocating the training of Benue civil servants which was to hold Lagos to Makurdi, said it would have been difficult to take 500 civil servants to Lagos for training.The training is the first phase in the series of trainings that will be conducted between the state government and ASCON.Describing civil servants as the engine room of the state, Ortom said, after receiving the training, the civil servants will begin to show their talents which will make things work.Earlier, leader of the ASCON delegation, Mr Jonathan Audu, who disclosed that they were in the state for a 5-day workshop for senior public officers expressed appreciation to the Governor for giving them the opportunity to train senior officers in the state. Audu particularly thanked Governor Ortom for the conducive environment and warm reception, praying that God should continue to protect and bless the state with more resources to enable the government implement all the laudable projects outlined for the people of the state. He explained that ASCON is a foremost management development institute in Nigeria saying that “It has the mandate to provide management techniques and equip our senior public servants with relevant skills for performance improvement.Audu commended the governor for his commitment to train 500 people in one fell swoop saying it is a huge investment adding “That is the right way, because if you don’t train them, don’t blame them” 
“In the management circle, we always said that, hard time provide opportunities for us to train staff. It is only capable hands that bring organisations out of the woods.”
