The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN, has inducted 357 graduates of medicine and dentistry from foreign institutions.
Those inducted comprised of 341 medical graduates and 16 dental graduates.
Briefing journalists during the induction ceremony at the council’s headquarters in Abuja, registrar of the council, Tajudeen Sanusi, advised the inductees to abide by the ethics of the profession and prioritize the health and wellbeing of their patients.
He said as house officers they were not members of the association of resident doctors, adding that while they have rights to associate with any association, they are not allowed to join in strikes.
He lamented that women and children were the major victims of medical practices and advised the inductees to maintain the integrity of the profession and not endanger lives.
Earlier in his opening remark, Sen. Ibrahim Oloriegbe, the Chairman of Senate Committee on Health, said the medical profession is a noble profession, aimed at serving humanity.
He said that the National Assembly is committed to safeguarding the profession as evidenced in its oversight functions for MDCN.
Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, advised the inductees to continue to improve themselves professionally for the benefit of their patients during their practice.
Osagie said they could by their contributions make Nigeria a medical tourism destination in Africa.
