Ododo hails Supreme Court judgement, calls for unity

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has praised the Supreme Court’s decision affirming his victory in the November 11, 2023, governorship election. In a statement, Governor Ododo commended the judiciary for upholding the will of the people and resisting attempts to undermine the electoral process.

“I feel elated about our victory and how the judiciary held on to the point of law and stayed away from emotional blackmail and threats to ensure justice is served,” Governor Ododo said.

He added, “The judiciary was threatened and blackmailed but they remain resolute and ignored emotions.”

Governor Ododo also called on opposition parties to join his administration in working towards the development of Kogi State, saying, “It’s time for all of us to come together and discuss the affairs of our state towards achieving the greatness that we all wish for Kogi State.”

He emphasized that the election was a contest among “people from the same family” to serve the state, and urged his supporters to be magnanimous in victory.

“The victory is not all about me. It is about the people that trouped out on November 11, 2023 to vote for us and we won the election resoundingly,” Governor Ododo said.

He promised to continue serving the people with dedication and the fear of God, assuring that members of his team will redouble efforts to bring forth creativity in delivering dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

The Supreme Court’s five-member panel dismissed the appeal by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its candidate, Muritala Ajaka, affirming Governor Ododo’s victory.
