Karu truck explosion: FCTA health secretary, PS, respond to emergency calls

Mandate Secretary of the FCT Health and Environment Secretariat Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, as well as the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat, Dr. Abubakar Ahmadu, were both at the hospital Wednesday night, to assist with the treatment of victims of the Karu truck explosion.

The Abuja Inquirer yesterday, reported that six persons had lost their lives when a truck lost control on the Karu bridge between Kugbo and Nyanya stretch of the road, and ramped into several vehicles on its path.

The impact was said to have caused an explosion that engulfed over fourteen vehicles caught in a traffic gridlock on the road.

Medical doctors across the territory responded to emergency calls from the National hospital, Asokoro Hospital, State House clinic, Custom Hospital and Nyanya General Hospital, to attend to the accident victims.

The medical response which began at the Accident & Emergency, A&E, Unit of Asokoro General Hospital, quickly moved to the Intensive Care Unit, and later to a referral facility for advanced treatment.

The FCTA Health Secretariat said the expertise of the Mandate Secretary and the Permanent Secretary was put to the test as, “they joined other doctors in a life-saving effort, performing CPR to revive a critically injured victim.

“It was a memorable night for the young medical doctors who witnessed and assisted in the emergency response.

“The Mandate Secretary and Acting Permanent Secretary clocked out at 2:15 a.m on Thursday. Leaving a lasting impact on families, friends, and witnesses, they demonstrated unwavering commitment and dedication to emergency medical response and saving lives.”
