UBEC unveils bold 2025–2027 strategy to transform basic education

The Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, has launched a bold three-year strategic blueprint aimed at revitalizing Nigeria’s basic education sub-sector.

Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Aisha Garba, unveiled the document dubbed the UBEC 2025–2027 Strategic Blueprint, during a two-day management retreat in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The high-level retreat brought together UBEC’s top management, including Directors, Deputy and Assistant Directors, and Chief Education Officers from across national, zonal, and state offices.

According to a statement by UBEC’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. David Apeh, the retreat focused on aligning stakeholders around the implementation of the new strategic plan, refining operational strategies, and establishing strong monitoring and evaluation systems across the board.

The session also emphasized retooling UBEC’s leadership with key competencies in effective governance, interdepartmental synergy, and institutional accountability. A significant part of the agenda involved reviewing a revamped organizational structure developed with support from KPMG, designed to sharpen UBEC’s operational effectiveness.

Garba also called for greater collaboration within UBEC and with relevant education agencies, stressing the importance of redesigning team structures and internal processes to boost performance and deliver quality basic education.

She further urged states to craft context-specific work plans in alignment with national education goals.

The retreat benefited from technical guidance provided by Solina, KPMG, and the Lagos Business School, which facilitated leadership and management training for UBEC’s senior officials.

By the close of the retreat, UBEC’s leadership reaffirmed their commitment to transforming insights into action, focused on strengthening the basic education landscape and improving learning outcomes for every Nigerian child.
