The Labour Party has postponed its scheduled ward, local government and state congresses, announcing the constitution of a 46-man committee to organise its national convention.
The party leadership said the decision was taken to allow for broader consultations and to ensure a credible and transparent process ahead of the convention.
In a statement, the party disclosed that the newly constituted committee has been mandated to plan, coordinate and conduct the national convention, including setting guidelines and timelines for the exercise.
It added that the committee would also oversee preparatory activities to ensure inclusiveness and compliance with party regulations.
Party officials said the postponement of the congresses would enable the leadership to address internal concerns and strengthen unity within its ranks before proceeding with the electoral processes.
The Labour Party further assured members that a new date for the congresses would be communicated in due course.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts by political parties to reposition ahead of future electoral activities.
