Tottenham Hotspur have secured their first Premier League victory of the season with a 3-1 win over Coventry City, inspired by James Maddison’s impressive return to the starting line-up.
Maddison, who had been sidelined by serious knee injuries, opened the scoring in the 14th minute at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a superb strike from outside the penalty area
Coventry responded four minutes into the second half through Jack Rudoni, who capitalised on a loose ball to restore parity.
However, Tottenham regained the lead in the 58th minute when Omar Marmoush powered home his first goal for the club.
Substitute Ben Davies sealed the victory deep into stoppage time, easing the pressure on manager Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
Maddison’s return after an extended spell on the sidelines provided a major boost for Tottenham, while midfielder Dejan Kulusevski also made his first matchday squad appearance in 17 months before coming on late in the game.
The result ends Tottenham’s difficult start to the league campaign, having entered the encounter at the bottom of the table without a win.
Coventry, managed by Frank Lampard, had won their previous two matches before suffering the defeat.
