NAF recovers drone, says no lives lost

The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, has recovered one of its unmanned aerial vehicles, UAV, after it lost communication during a routine operation.

The Air Force disclosed this in a statement on Thursday by its Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.

According to the statement, the UAV was deployed on 2 January 2026 within the Operation FASAN YAMMA Sector 3 area when it experienced a loss of link. Efforts to restore communication failed, leading the crew to activate standard emergency procedures.

The NAF said it immediately coordinated response and recovery efforts with sister services and relevant authorities.

The statement added that the UAV has been secured, while technical teams have begun preliminary assessments in line with safety and operational procedures.

Ejodame said there was no loss of life and that military operations across all theatres continue without interruption.

He reassured the public of the Air Force’s professionalism, noting that counter-insurgency operations remain ongoing in the interest of national security.
