Musawa, Okonjo-Iweala, Akpoti, Others honoured at women making impact awards

The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa, has expressed gratitude to Arise Group for recognizing 65 outstanding Nigerian women at the Women Making Impact Awards.

Musawa made this known at a gala night held at Eko Hotel, Lagos, on Monday, March 31, 2025, where distinguished women, including Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, H.E. Amina Mohammed, and Obiageli Ezekwesili, were honoured for their contributions to national and global development.

Receiving her award from former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Musawa praised the resilience and strength of Nigerian women, emphasizing their ability to be both emotional and courageous.

“It is a huge honour for me in a country like Nigeria, where so many women have broken the glass ceiling to be honoured in this way. The greatest thing about women is their ability to be sensitive and emotional but at the same time, courageous and strong,” she said.

Musawa further encouraged young girls to dream big, stating, “There is an honour and prestige that comes with being a woman. It is a huge honour for me, and I hope that all of us will stand as a representation so that all the little girls all over Nigeria will know that they too can thrive and break that glass ceiling.”

The Women Making Impact Awards celebrated the achievements of influential Nigerian women across various fields. Okonjo-Iweala was recognized for her work at the World Trade Organization and her contributions to Nigeria’s economic growth. Other honourees included Minister of Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole; Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman; and Arise News journalist, Ojinika Okpe.

Musawa, a renowned lawyer, politician, and writer, described the recognition as a testament to the power of women everywhere.

The event was part of activities marking International Women’s Month, celebrating women’s achievements and inspiring future generations.
